Sculpted and produced by Yuji Sakai, "Gamera 1996 (G2)" arrives as a pre-painted finished figure standing approximately 32cm tall!
Originally released as a garage kit during the theatrical run of the 1996 Daiei (now KADOKAWA) film "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion," the 20cm soft vinyl kit "Gamera 1996" by Yuji Sakai remains a masterpiece that shocked fans and continues to be highly regarded today.
At the time, this sculpt was created after Mr. Sakai conducted thorough research on the filming set, perfectly reproducing every detail of the suit used in the movie.
After 29 years, aiming for even greater perfection, the elite Kaiyodo sculpting team, under the complete supervision of Mr. Sakai, has revived it as a pre-painted finished product by incorporating new reference materials! With its refined details, this product can be called a new sculpt by Mr. Sakai that is only possible today.
The original sculpt was digitized using the latest 3D scanning method (CT scan), scaled up from the original 190mm to 320mm, and the molds were created directly from 3D printer output. By avoiding the use of duplicated mass-production molds and relying solely on the original molds, we aimed to reproduce the characteristics of the sculpt as faithfully as possible. This minimizes the deformation and shrinkage often seen in soft vinyl products made using the orthodox lost-wax process.
Naturally, the coloring is also under the complete supervision of Mr. Sakai. Instead of the conventional assembly-line painting process, we have succeeded in mass production with a quality that feels as if it were finished by a master painter by hand.
You can enjoy a finish that feels like a one-off piece, rather than the mechanical finish seen in previous mass-produced items.

A leading Japanese kaiju sculptor and the foremost authority on Godzilla sculpting.
He began his career as a professional sculptor after winning the grand prize at the Kaiyodo-sponsored "Artpla Grand Prix."
His sculpting prowess extends beyond figures, influencing the actual suit construction for Godzilla films, and he continues to be active in various fields beyond his own "Yuji Sakai Modeling Workshop," including participating as a staff member for kaiju films.
While Godzilla is his most frequent subject, it is a well-known fact that he demonstrates unparalleled skill in sculpting other kaiju, including Gamera.
In recent years, he has served as the supervisor for all kaiju at the "Eiji Tsuburaya Museum" in Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, Eiji Tsuburaya's hometown, where he successfully recreated the first-generation Godzilla suit that no longer exists. In 2024, he was honored as a "Master Craftsman of Fukushima Prefecture" by the prefecture for his outstanding technical skills.
