The talent of the "Robo-shi" (Robot Master) revived in large-scale soft vinyl!!
The Gunbuster returns from a masterpiece kit!
Takumi Sato was a sculptor dubbed the "Robo-shi" for his brilliant sense of faithfully capturing the image of robots from their source material while adding sculptural arrangements that maximized their coolness. To preserve his talent, which was lost when he passed away suddenly in 2006, we have revived one of his masterpiece kits, "Gunbuster," as part of the Mega Sofubi series to coincide with the 35th anniversary of "Gunbuster!"
The base is the soft vinyl kit released by Kaiyodo in 1991. In reviving it as a finished product with a massive height of over 55cm—fitting for Gunbuster's in-universe settings—we refined it to convey the charm of the original sculpt. While maintaining the powerful, core-focused posing and beautifully balanced form of the simple standing posture, the fine details and edges have been precisely arranged to look impressive at this large scale.
The paintwork has been carefully finished to shine at this size, with two versions released simultaneously: a vivid full-color version and a monochrome version inspired by the visuals of the final episode of "Gunbuster!" A kit version is also planned for release for heavy users who wish to finish it with their own hands.
Using magnets for attachment, you can swap the arms and chest parts to recreate the iconic crossed-arms pose or the standing pose with arms at its sides.
With this Gunbuster as the first installment, the Mega Sofubi series will continue to roll out big-size models. Stay tuned!
