The talent of the "Robo-shi" (Robot Master) is revived in large-scale soft vinyl!!
The Gunbuster returns from a legendary kit!
Taku Sato was a sculptor known as the "Robo-shi" for his brilliant sense of faithfully capturing the image of robots from their source material while adding sculptural arrangements that maximized their coolness. To preserve his talent, which was lost when he passed away suddenly in 2006, we have revived his masterpiece "Gunbuster" kit as part of the Mega Sofubi series to coincide with the 35th anniversary of "Gunbuster!" (Top wo Nerae!).
The base is the soft vinyl kit released by Kaiyodo in 1991. In reviving it as a finished product with a massive height of over 55cm—fitting for the Gunbuster's in-universe settings—we refined it to convey the charm of the original sculpt. While maintaining the core-focused posing that feels powerful despite its simple standing posture and the beautifully balanced form, we have applied precise refinements to the details and edges to ensure a striking appearance at this large scale.
The paint job has also been carefully finished to shine at this size, with two versions released simultaneously: a vivid full-color version and a monochrome version inspired by the visuals of the final episode of "Gunbuster!". A kit version is also planned for release for heavy users who wish to finish it with their own hands.
Using magnets for attachment, you can swap the arms and chest parts to recreate the iconic crossed-arms pose or the standing pose with arms at its sides.
With this Gunbuster as the first installment, we will continue to roll out big-size models in the Mega Sofubi series. Stay tuned!
